Gokyo Valley & Renjo-La Trekking Itinerary

  • Day 01 On arrival in Kathmandu meet our staff for transfer to hotel.

    On reaching Kathmandu International Airport received by our guide and staff and then transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu.

    After checking in your rooms join with other members of the group for Gokyo valley & Renjo-la Trek briefing with other related information required during your stay with us, needful information provided by our expert guides and company staff.

    Evening includes welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese restaurant with folk culture program along with the dinner.

  • Day 02 Fly to Lukla 2,820 m (30 mins) and trek to Phakding 2,640 m - 03 hrs.

    Early morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for short scenic flight to Lukla, the door to various adventures around Khumbu and Everest region.

    Lukla, in early days was a goat and sheep grazing pasture, hence the name ‘Luk’ means Sheep and La as respect to the areas in Sherpa of Tibetan origin language.

    The name still exists, as the airport came into existence (built with the help of Hillary) then main flow of visitors began to pour in, making at present Lukla one of the major town of Khumbu after Namche Bazaar.

    Walk begins with pleasant winding path following past Sherpa farm villages with views of Kongde and Kusum-Khanguru to reach our first overnight stop at Phakding, located by the Dudh Kosi Rivers. 

  • Day 03 Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 06 hrs.

    Today walks takes you to famous Namche Bazaar where altitude gains as walk progress slowly. Morning starts following Dudh Kosi River crossing several times the same river to reach Monjo village close to Sagarmatha National Park entrance.

    (Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepalese and Sherpa calls Chomolungma meaning Great Mother in both languages). Sagarmatha National Park added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 1979.

    From here walk on river valley and gorge covered within nice woodland of tall rhododendron-pines and fir trees.

    After crossing last high bridge few hour climb to reach at Namche Bazaar facing views of Everest-Lhotse and Kongde peaks, Namche Bazaar at an altitude 4,440 m high a perfect spot for rest day and acclimatization.

    Namche Bazaar a main town and a large village of Khumbu area, where colorful busy Saturday market takes place once a week.

  • Day 04 Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion.

    At Namche at leisure with rest day for necessary acclimatization before heading higher elevation, morning after breakfast options for hike to Everest View Hotel or walk to the hill top of Namche.

    Where you can catch superb views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Amadablam with range of peaks, here visit Museum provides you with information of Khumbu region, Sherpa history-culture-flora and fauna including detail on mountaineering.

    Namche Bazaar situated on an ancient Trans Himalayan Salt and Caravan route of Nepal and Tibet, which is towards west of Namche past Thame village unto near Renjo-la, where further north leads to high Nangpa-la pass that joins Nepal and Tibet border.

    At present the trade still exists but in smaller scale than it used to be in earlier days, where you can witness Tibetans people sometimes on trade at Namche Bazaar.

  • Day 05 Trek from Namche Bazar to Dole 4,110 m - 06 hrs

    Morning walk starts on gradual trail to reach above the main trail near Sanasa village, and then heading for a climb for an hour to reach at Mong Danda (ridge) a small settlement with few small lodges.

    This high ridge of Mong offers grand views of Everest with majestic Amadablam and adjoining peaks, from here on downhill to PhortseTenga near Dudh-Kosi River.

    From Phortse Tenga, afternoon walk p into cool shade of rhododendron-pines and oaks forest to reach at Dole for overnight stop, a nice small spot with few good lodges facing north side of Khumbila peak. 

  • Day 06 Trek from Dole to Machherma 4,470 m - 04 hrs.

    As adventure continues gaining much elevation, where walk heads with a slow start to reach at Machherma taking about 3 to 4 hours of good scenic walks. Morning starts to a climb on top of a ridge, and then on pleasant winding path for few hours facing views of Mt. Cho-Oyu (world’s 6th highest peak at 8,201 m / 26,906 ft).

    From the high ridge descend to a valley where Machherma ,a small settlement located with number of nice lodges to stay with time in the afternoon for short walks. overnight stop.

  • Day 07 Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo 4800 m-4 hrs,hike to view Ngozumba Glacier 1 hr up and down.

    Todays trip starts with slight uphill craggy mountain path for little more than two hours untill getting to the first lake. we will be walking slowly and steadily as we are gaining altitude on our every step of the hike.You are recommended to drink as much liquid as you can while walking . After that ,another valley starts with moraine and rocky path appearing second and third lake in row.You will start seeing massive view of Cho-you and Gejungkang along with other snow capped mountains,and Gokyo Ri(peak) boldly standing in front of you that we will be climbing on tomorrow.After reaching and Checking in Lodges in Gokyo,we will be out for hiking for an hour to the view point from where you can take a stunning view of Ngozumba Glacier.

  • Day 08 Climb to Gokyo Ri from Gokyo (peak) 3 hrs,hike back down to Gokyo and overnight stop

    Starting early morning with hearty breakfast, on leaving the lodge at Lungden, following uphill trail leading towards a frozen ponds after few hours of climb, and then a steep climb over rocky areas beneath Renjo La pass, finally the last haul and push takes you on top Renjo-la pass at above 5,465 m high.

    This is the highest point of the adventure offers amazing panorama of peaks with close views of world 6th highest Cho-Oyu includes Everest, Lhotse and Makalu with adjoining peaks.

    After an exciting moment descend with care towards Gokyo third lake once at the foot of Renjo-la, walk gets pleasant with few hours to reach at Gokyo and into a lodge for overnight stops.

  • Day 09 From Gokyo ,Cross Renjola pass and over night stop at Lungden 08 hrs

    Today will be a big and long day as hiking will take around 8,9 hrs to reach Lungden after crossing Renjo la pass.we take a early breakfast at 5 o`clock in the morning and set out not late by 6 am.via gokyo lake toward Renjola pass.The rocky trail is flat for half an hour and steep up hill like Gokyo Ri until getting to Pass that will take around 4 hrs.Since there is not any tea house on the way to Lungden,we will have big pack lunch and drinks which we will take a bite while on the top of Renjola pass while enjoying the panoramic view of Everest range and Cho Oyo as well as chola pass range with Tauche peak.After crossing the Pass,it will take  another 4 hrs to reach Lungden on gradual downhill and steep climb down most section of the route.At Lungden, we will have early good night sleep since everybody is exhausted from long and most chalenging hike of the entire trek.

  • Day 10 Trek From Lungden to Thame 4 hrs.

    Today is  very short and easy hike from Lungden to Thame.The trail is almost flat and gradual donwhill ,some section of the route passing by small sherpa village and tea house on the  Thame Vally.

  • Day 11 Trek from Thame to Monjo via Namche Bazar

    From Thame it will take almost three hrs to get to Namche Bazar on a leveled and horizontal path through Thomu village with a beautiful view of Konde Ri and Tashi Lapcha pass.we will have lunch at Namche Bazar and trash back down to Monjo that will take couple of hrs .

  • Day 12 Trek from Monjo to Lukla - 04 hrs.

    Our last day trek of this marvelous adventure ends at Lukla, where morning walk follows Dudh Kosi River for sometimes, and then on pleasant scenic trail with last uphill to reach at Lukla for final overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest region.

    Afternoon at leisure for short walks around Lukal town and its small markets with unique airstrip and airport named after legendry mountaineers Tenzing and Hillary. 

  • Day 13 Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to your hotels.

    Morning transfer to Tenzing-Hillary airport at Lukla, where scenic short flight brings you back at hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu, and then transfer to your respective hotels, with afternoon free at leisure for individual activities’. 

  • Day 14 In Kathmandu free day as contingency with optional tour.

    Himalayan Gateway Trekking reserves this spare day as contingency in case of flight delay and cancellation at Lukla, which often occurs due to bad weather.

    If all goes well according to our itinerary program with flights as scheduled where you can have options of sightseeing tours at places of interest or just relax with memories of the adventure or strong stroll around Thamel Bazar,most touristic hub of kathmandu, for shopping and good food.

  • Day 15 International departure for homeward bound.

    Last day in amazing Nepal Himalaya, as per your flight homeward bound or to next respective connecting countries, depart from the hotel for Kathmandu International Airport with fond memories of great marvelous adventure of a lifetime experience on Gokyo Valley and Renjo-la Pass Trek.
