Everest Three High Pass Trekking Itinerary

  • Day 01 On arrival in Kathmandu meet our staff for transfer to hotel.

    On reaching Kathmandu International Airport received by our guide and staff and then transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu.

    After checking in your rooms join with other members of the group for Everest Three High Pass Trek briefing with other related information required during your stay with us, briefing provided by our expert guides or company staff.


  • Day 02 Fly to Lukla 2,820 m (30 mins) and trek to Phakding 2,640 m - 04 hrs.

    Early morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for short scenic flight to Lukla, the door to various adventures around Khumbu and Everest region.

    Lukla, in early days was a goat and sheep grazing pasture, hence the name ‘Luk’ means Sheep and La as respect to the areas in Sherpa of Tibetan origin language.

    The name still exists, as the airport came into existence (built with the help of Hillary) then main flow of visitors began to pour in, making at present Lukla one of the major town of Khumbu after Namche Bazaar.

    Walk begins with pleasant winding path following past Sherpa farm villages with views of Kongde and Kusum-Khanguru to reach our first overnight stop at Phakding, located by the Dudh Kosi Rivers. 

  • Day 03 Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 06 hrs.

    Today walks takes you to famous Namche Bazaar where altitude gains as walk progress slowly. Morning starts following Dudh Kosi River crossing several times the same river to reach Monjo village close to Sagarmatha National Park entrance.

    (Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepalese and Sherpa calls Chomolungma meaning Great Mother in both languages). Sagarmatha National Park added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 1979.

    From here walk on river valley and gorge covered within nice woodland of tall rhododendron-pines and fir trees.

    After crossing last high bridge few hour climb to reach at Namche Bazaar facing views of Everest-Lhotse and Kongde peaks, Namche Bazaar at an altitude 4,440 m high a perfect spot for rest day and acclimatization.

    Namche Bazaar a main town and a large village of Khumbu area, where colorful busy Saturday market takes place once a week.

  • Day 04 Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion.

    At Namche at leisure with rest day for necessary acclimatization before heading higher elevation, morning after breakfast options for hike to Everest View Hotel or walk to the hill top of Namche.

    Where you can catch superb views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Amadablam with range of peaks, here visit Museum provides you with information of Khumbu region, Sherpa history-culture-flora and fauna including detail on mountaineering.

    Namche Bazaar situated on an ancient Trans Himalayan Salt and Caravan route of Nepal and Tibet, which is towards west of Namche past Thame village unto near Renjo-la, where further north leads to high Nangpa-la pass that joins Nepal and Tibet border.

    At present the trade still exists but in smaller scale than it used to be in earlier days, where you can witness Tibetans people sometimes on trade at Namche Bazaar.

  • Day 05 Trek to Thyangboche Monastery 3,867 m - 05 hrs.

    After a pleasant stop at Namche, morning walk heading with scenic and gradual walks overlooking views of Everest and adjoining peaks, as route leads downhill to Imjatse River at Phunki Tenga, a small place with few lodges.

    Here with refreshing break or lunch stop and then climb for few hours into cool shade of lovely woodland covered within rhododendron, oaks, magnolia, juniper and pine trees.

    After a great scenic and climb reaching at Thyangboche with time to visit its interesting monastery, where colorful festival ‘Mani-Rimdu’ monks with mask dancing wading evil spirits takes place in the month of October as per Buddhist lunar calendar, overnight in Thyangboche with rooms facing views of peaks.

  • Day 06 Trek to Dingboche 4,260 m - 05hrs.

    Morning catch marvelous views of Everest and magnificent Amadablam, as our route descends within forested areas to reach a bridge, from here a slow climb coming across mani (prayer) walls to Pangboche village.

    Pangboche, the last permanent village before Everest base camp, other places on route treks are temporary settlements, with lodges to cater the needs of trekkers.

    Pangboche hails one of the oldest monasteries of the area, where it use to treasure a Yeti scalp and skeleton of Yeti hand, which was lost and stolen in late 1990’s never recovered it back.

    Walk continues heading higher into barren and arid country as tree lines disappears for small juniper and dwarf rhododendron bushes (azalea).

    Finally reaching a wide glacial valley at Dingboche facing spectacular views of island peak, Amadablam North Face, Cholatse and Taboche peaks with Nuptse and Lhotse, a nice lovely spot with many good lodges

    In early days Dingboche was a Yak grazing pasture land, as commercial trekking started this area at present developing into a flourishing permanent village rather than temporary settlement.

  • Day 07 Rest day at Dingboche for acclimatization and hike to view points.

    We have reserved another rest day to support you with good acclimatization before heading towards Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar which is above 5,364 m and 5,545 m high.

    At Dingboche with options of side walk with climb to Nakarjung hill for better views of surrounding peaks and of scenic Imjatse valley with Island Peak.

    Afternoon at leisure and enjoy the panorama of surrounding mountains at ease.

  • Day 08 Trek to Chukung 4,730 m -04 hrs.

    Morning after pleasant stop at beautiful Imjatse valley in Dingboche, where walk leads further east towards the valley end with close views of Island and Lhotse peaks, as our route leads on good trail with short ups and down to reach at Chukung for overnight stop and lunch.

    A small settlement with some lodge with great views of Lhotse Shar, Lhotse, Nuptse, Island Peak and Amphu peaks.

  • Day 09 Trek and cross over Khongma-la 5,535 m to reach at Lobuche 4,930 m - 08 hrs.

    Starting early morning before crack of dawn as walk leads close towards mid of Imjatse valley on the high side, where our route diverts from the main route entering into a mountain gorge of rocks and moraine to reach on top highest pass of the adventure on top Khongma-la.

    The top strewn with some rocks cairns and prayer flags marking the pass enclosed within Nuptse-Mehra and Pokalde peaks, after a rest descend towards Khumbu glacier following our lead expert guide as walk leads over rocks, moraine and ice with climb on top of a dune hill and then descend to Lobuche for overnight stop, a place with several nice lodges with views of Nuptse and Lobuche peaks.

  • Day 10 Trek to Gorakshep 5,180 m and to Everest Base Camp 5,364 m - 06 hrs.

    Morning walk leads towards our main destination and of the trip at Everest Base Camp, starting on wide valley with short climb then reaching a place where Glass Pyramid located, a joint venture (Italian and Nepal government) metrological station. Options of short visit to the glass pyramid to learn more of the area and movement of the glaciers and mountains.

    From this peaceful place walk continues above Khumbu glaciers, walking past moraine to reach at Gorakshep.

    A small place with few lodges on the junction of Everest base camp and Kalapathar route. Gorakshep was an earlier Everest base camp from 1950’s to late 1970’s before it extended further east.

    After a rest at Gorakshep few hours walk leads to direction of Pumori base camp and Everest Base Camp routes.

    As walk proceeds over moraine and glacier to reach our final destination at Everest base camp offering glorious views of giant peaks Nuptse-Lo la, with massive Khumbu Ice Falls and glaciers.

    In peak expedition season this place will be flooded and active with climbers and camps, after a wonderful time then walk back to Gorakshep for overnight stop.

  • Day 11 Hike to Kalapatthar 5,545 m and walk to Dzongla 4, 828 m.

    An early climb to reach on top Kalapatthar at 5,545 m high, this will be the highest spot of the adventure offers fantastic panorama of mountains with Everest at close distance.

    Standing on top facing alluring views descend back to Gorakshep for breakfast and continue walk downhill through Lobuche and above Thugla, as our new route leads to isolated corner at Dzongla, a small settlement for overnight in a nice cozy lodge.

  • Day 12 Cross over Cho-la pass and descend to Thagnag 4,747 m - 07 hrs.

    Early start from Dzongla, heading towards our second High Big Pass of the adventure another tough day to cross over high Cho-la pass after an early breakfast following the path leading to a steep up and then crossing over a glacier on the east side.

    The pass located at the height of 5,365 m, quite demanding to cross over in snow conditions, from the top views of giant mountains with Cholatse Glacier, and then descend carefully to Thagnag for overnight stop with some lodges.

  • Day 13 Trek to Gokyo third main Lake 4,800 m -04 hrs afternoon free and relax.

    After a great adventure crossing Cho-la pass, morning walk on pleasant path to reach at beautiful Gokyo towards near Na, situated on the foot of Ngozumba glacier.

    Slowly walk leads to Gokyo Lake after walking past first lake and second lakes, to reach at third main lake also called Dudh Pokhari where most of the good lodges located, Gokyo in early days a summer pasture for Yaks grazing areas now a human settlement. Afternoon free to relax after crossing great two passes of Khumbu and Everest. 

  • Day 14 Trek and cross Renjo-la 5,465 m and walk to Lungden 4,600 m - 07 hrs.

    Final adventure with last Big Day to cross final pass to complete covering all Everest three high passes, an early morning start with a climb after reaching end of Gokyo Lake, as route offers views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse and Taboche, finally climb leads over Renjo La pass at 5,465 m / 17,929 ft, one of the most difficult section of the adventure.

    From the top facing panorama of Mt. Cho-Oyu and other high surrounding peaks, after enjoying the views descend with pleasant walk that leads past frozen ponds beneath Renjo La pass, and then with long downhill to Lungdeng for overnight stop, after a tough day completing our all great passes of the adventure, Lungdeng located on-route Nangpa-la pass to Tibet.

  • Day 15 Trek to Thame 3,880 m via Marlung - 05 hrs.

    On completing all three high pass, an easy and pleasant downhill walk from here onwards with views of Kongde peaks, as walk leads past Marlung village, and then continue towards sleepy, quiet village at Thame located west of Namche Bazaar.

    At Thame with time to visit its old and interesting monastery believed to be more than 500 years old.

  • Day 16 Trek to Monjo 2,880 m via Namche Bazaar - 06 hrs.

    From this peaceful and quiet Thame village walking on pleasant wide path to Namche Bazaar taking less than two hours, here for possible lunch stop or short interval and then head downhill to Dudh Kosi River with short climb to Sagarmatha National Park where Monjo village located for overnight stop before Lukla.

  • Day 17 Trek to Lukla - 04 hrs.

    Our last day trek of this marvelous adventure ends at Lukla, where morning walk follows Dudh Kosi River for sometimes near Phakding, and then on pleasant scenic trail with last uphill to reach at Lukla for final overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest region.

    Afternoon at leisure for short walks around Lukal town and its small markets with unique airstrip and airport named after legendry mountaineers Tenzing and Hillary. 

  • Day 18 Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to your hotels.

    Morning transfer to Tenzing-Hillary airport at Lukla, where scenic short flight brings you back at hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu, and then transfer to your respective hotels, with afternoon free at leisure for individual activities. 

  • Day 19 In Kathmandu free day as contingency with optional tour.

    Himalayan Gateway Treks reserves this spare day as contingency in case of flight delay and cancellation at Lukla, which often occurs due to bad weather.

    If all goes well according to our itinerary program with flights as scheduled where you can have options of sightseeing tours at places of interest or just relax with memories of the adventure.

  • Day 20 International departure for homeward bound.

    Last day in amazing Nepal Himalaya, as per your flight homeward bound or to next respective connecting countries, depart from the hotel for Kathmandu international airport with fond memories of great marvelous adventure on Everest Three High Pass Trekking.
